Every now and then we post something cute from our travels. And this photo was taken in a small hotel in a little village in southern India. I suppose there are many ways to control lighting within a room but if you ever want absolute control over each light bulb then there is no surer way than this. Just don’t forget to mark the switches!
After two nights in Kanadukathan in the heart of the Chettinad district in Tamil Nadu, we headed west to Madurai, ancient Tamil capital of the south for the last night of our culinary and spiritual adventure. The beautiful Heritage Madurai resort was home for the last night and finale dinner.
As is tradition on our trips, everyone gets dressed up for the last night. A sumptuous traditional Tamil thali dinner was on the menu, a perfect end to a wonderful culinary journey of South India.
We’d like to announce our next spiritual adventure planned for September of this year to the islands of Indonesia. More details to come but the current plan is for us to travel, explore and retreat on the islands of Bali, Lombok, the Gili Islands and Java. Nothing like tropical island hopping.
During our journey we’ll be visiting the magnificent Borobudur temple, a masterpiece Buddhist sanctuary. We’ll also visit the great Prambanan Hindu temples. These are some of the finest if not the best Hindu temple architecture in South East Asia for sure.
Stay tuned and we’ll be bringing you more information on this wellness and meditation retreat in the coming days.

We continue our coverage of our recent spiritual adventure though it concluded a few days ago. Here are photos from the last night in the village of Kanadukathan in the Chettinad district in South India. In the evening we took a walk in the village and we came across many amazing mansions, plus villagers enjoying the quiet life while kids played cricket or splashed around in ponds.
At a small Shiva temple in the countryside of the Chettinad region, we stopped to participate in a Hindu custom in which a coconut is smashed on the ground in front of the temple to symbolize the smashing of the ego.

The temple was beautifully kept and practically deserted, a change from the crowded temples of the last few days. We carry our coconuts past rows of statues depicting the Tamil sages.

In front of the temple, each person flings their coconut to the ground and they all break with a satisfying crack.
